Meadowsweet

Opening Reception

Thursday, June 19th from 6pm to 8pm

This summer, J. Peeler Howell Fine Art presents Meadowsweet, an assembly of esteemed contemporary artists whose practices explore materiality, process, and formal abstraction.

Allison Streett creates evocative, technically excellent sculptures that communicate the truth about human experiences in an honoring, challenging, and hopeful way.

Kiki Gaffney’s meditative compositions engage with themes of nature, symmetry, and ornamentation, transforming organic motifs into geometric structures.

Dawn Waters Baker translates the emotional and spiritual essence of nature into landscapes. Water, earth, atmosphere, and sky become veiled glimpses into a deeper reality.

Laura Roosevelt carries forward a tradition of American cultural leadership through a strikingly modern lens. Her large-scale paintings are charged with palpable energy - driven by story, structure, and spirit.

Holly Miller uses humble materials, a monochromatic palette, and a restrained vocabulary to explore the physicality of drawing by merging the tactile with the optical, creating a sense of touch through visual means.

Diane Walker-Gladney is a contemporary abstract painter whose work is often noted for its use of color, intricate layers and playful content.

Michelle Benoit, known for her layered acrylic constructions, investigates memory and color through translucent, stratified compositions.

Laurie Skantzos seeks to create a sense of wonder and curiosity through her "portals", inviting viewers to enter a world of vibrant color and organic form.
